Do Most Health Insurance Plans Cover Maternity?

The fast answer here is no.  In the individual health insurance market, most health insurance plans do not cover the cost of maternity.  If maternity coverage is something you may need, it will be important to plan ahead.

Conversely, if you have coverage through your employer and your on a group plan, most plans cover maternity.  This is one of the main advantages of being on a group health insurance plan.  Also, another advantage of having coverage through your employer is that you are not subject to individual underwriting.  If you have a pre-existing condition that may of got you denied in the individual market, on the group side you are automatically approved.
