California Managed Choice Plans

Aetna's Managed Choice plan is a form of health insurance that combines features of Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) benefits and Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) insurance plans.  Managed Choice plans have a provider network that functions similar to HMO by choosing a primary care doctor who manages and coordinates your care within the network.  Moreover, similar to a PPO plan, you may receive care from non-network providers only with higher out-of-pocket costs.  In addition, you could also be responsible for co-payments, coinsurance and an annual deductible.

The Managed Choice plans offer lower monthly premium payments balanced with a choice of deductible levels.  Managed Choice plans that offer a broader coverage can be an appropriate choice if frequent doctor visits are anticipated.    There are no referrals required to see a specialist.  The plans have coverage for routine physicals including lab work and X-rays.
